Our Fabrics

We choose fabrics the same way we approach color - thoughtfully, intentionally, and with respect for how they live in the world and on the body. Explore the fabrics we use below.

Reclaimed Textiles

Some of our handmade pieces begin with materials that already have a story - vintage linens, table lines, lace, and salvaged fabric remnants discovered along the way. Some are found secondhand, while others are sourced from shops and suppliers specializing in remnants and small quantities of beautiful fabrics. Each textile is selected for its beauty and character, then transformed and sewn by hand in our New York studio into a unique creation, giving the textile a new life. Since reclaimed textiles have lived a life before becoming yours, subtle variations or signs of age may remain. We consider these part of their character - and part of what makes each piece truly one of a kind.

Care & Longevity

Every ooakstreetdye piece is made to be worn in, lived in, and loved for a long time. Our care recommendations are designed to protect the fabric, dye work, and natural character of each piece of wearable art.

General Care

Wash gently in cold water using a mild, non-optical brightening detergent

Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, and harsh additives

Air dry or hang dry to preserve color, texture, and shape. Some fabrics like our organic cotton can be tumbled dry on low.

Why we recommend this

Optical brighteners and aggressive detergents can leave residue and dull our dyes over time. Gentle care helps maintain the depth of color and the integrity of the fabric. Care details may vary slightly by material and garment construction. Specific guidance is always noted on individual product pages.
